Blue-chip clients deliver £1.2m turnover for engineering consultancy SGi Shepherd Gilmour
Civil, structural and environmental engineering consultancy SGi Shepherd Gilmour has managed to double its turnover over the past 12 months.
The Manchester-based company’s takings have leapt from £600k to £1.2m.
SGi underwent a management restructure in March 2015 that saw long-term employee and director Emyr Jones take the reins. Since then, the firm’s team has grown from six to 15 employees.
MD Emyr has attributed much of SGi’s recent growth to repeat business with blue chip clients, such as investment firm Peel Holdings and developers Nurton Developments and Glenbrook Property, as well as a contract to deliver healthcare giant Bupa’s new HQ at MediaCityUK.
Emyr said: “Turnover has shot up 100% to £1.2 million in the past 12 months.
“Despite Brexit, the good thing is that our workload is expanding. As it stands I see no real sign of insecurity in our market, but I suppose the acid test will be the volume of new projects that will be starting in 12 months’ time.”
Shepherd Gilmour was founded in Manchester over 50 years ago. Originally based on Peter Street, the company moved to Liverpool Road in the 1980s and then to Chester Road in 2000. Earlier this year, Emyr moved the business back to its original home on Peter Street
Speaking further, Emyr said: “The vast proportion of our work comes from longstanding strong relationships. Around 90% is repeat business, some of which you can trace back to the 1960s.
“We are not a large company but we are efficient and have a wide client base, a client base that we want to nurture and grow.”
