Manchester City and have announced a new strategic content agreement with Chinese internet giant Tencent in a bid to boost their Far East fanbase.
As part of the deal, the Premier League side will produce exclusive behind-the-scenes footage for Tencent’s digital platforms WeChat and Penguin Live.
Additionally, Tencent Sports users in Beijing will have the opportunity to meet the club’s players in person.
According to Soccerex, Tom Glick, the chief commercial officer of MCFC-owner Manchester City Football Group, said: “The reach and strength of Tencent’s media channels make them a market leader in their field and everyone at Manchester City is hugely excited to kick-start our partnership with them.
“We believe the extent of their channels, coupled with the engaging and compelling content we produce, will enable soccer fans to gain unique insights into Manchester City and how we are preparing for the upcoming season under Pep Guardiola.”
He continued: “By collaborating with Tencent, we hope to not only bring current soccer fans closer to the action, but to also introduce the wider public to the excitement and togetherness soccer generates on and off the pitch.”
