Michelin-starred restaurant turns to Treske for inspiration
The Michelin-starred Black Swan at Oldstead, near Easingwold, has turned to award-winning furniture designer and manufacturer Treske of Thirsk to help to create a unique dining room experience.
The Black Swan, recently named as one of the thirty finest restaurants in the country by the Sunday Times, has refurbished its restaurant area to create the perfect ambience for its clientele. Treske has supplied 32 Artisan Neva oak chairs with leather upholstery to the Black Swan. The Neva chairs have just won a major prize in the prestigious Red Dot Awards for their appearance and design.
Anne Banks, co-owner of The Black Swan, commented: “We have always admired Treske’s furniture, so we turned to them for inspiration in conceiving a new style for our restaurant at The Black Swan.
“We were delighted to discover the Artisan Neva chair, which fits perfectly with our idea of creating a dining room experience to complement our chef Tommy’s unique modern cooking.
“The chairs feature a sophisticated design, combining the wonderful quality and texture of oak and leather with a simple clean, curvy design which our boys Tommy and James reckon has just the right amount of “cool”,” said Mrs Banks.
Justin Bartlett, managing director of Treske, said: “It is a real privilege to be chosen to supply our chairs to a restaurant of the quality and reputation of the Black Swan. They saw the distinctive chairs on our website and also visited our showroom to ensure they were just right.
“Like all successful contemporary restaurants, I gather they are trying to take their customers on a journey from the very furniture they sit on to the surrounding décor and, most importantly, to the food they eat. We are delighted to be part of that journey – and a small part of one of Yorkshire’s greatest culinary success stories.”
The Black Swan was created a decade ago by the Banks family. Run predominantly by sons Tommy (Head Chef) and James (Front of House) and a dedicated, knowledgeable team, the restaurant is situated in a quiet and picturesque corner of North Yorkshire.
Keeping close links with the surrounding area, Tommy has developed his own unique style in the kitchen, combining age-old methods with dynamic modern innovation. Many ingredients are either from the extensive kitchen garden or foraged close by with emphasis on a short journey from field to plate. His commitment to local sourcing adds great authenticity to a seasonally changing menu.
The Black Swan has received national acclaim for its award-winning cuisine, retaining its Michelin Star for five years and most recently achieving 28th in the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants.
The new restaurant area will be officially opened on August 1, when the Black Swan celebrates its 10th anniversary.
