Wynne Construction starts four new projects worth £30m

Bodelwyddyan-headquartered Wynne Construction has won four new construction contracts worth a total of £30m.

The company is now set to start work to build schools in Bala, Bangor and Llanfaethlu, Anglesey. It has also won the tender to redevelop the Bersham Road Campus in Wrexham for Coleg Cambria.

These latest contract starts follow on from Wynne Construction’s delivery of the soon-to-be completed £14m Deeside Sixth Form Centre and the £13m Ysgol Hafod Lon Newydd, the special educational needs school in Penrhyndeudraeth for Gwynedd Council.

In Bala, Wynne Construction has started construction of the new 3 – 19 Learning Campus, which is due to open in September 2018.

The joint investment of £10m, by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government, will protect the long-term future of post-16 education, as well as rural schools within the Bala catchment area.

The £5m Ysgol Rhyd Y Llan project will see Wynne Construction build a new school in the village of Llanfaethlu, Anglesey.

It will replace the three existing schools of Ysgol Llanfachraeth, Ysgol Ffrwd Win and Ysgol Cylch Y Garn and provide modern and well-equipped classrooms and outdoor areas suitable for play and learning. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

The £5m Ysgol Glancegin design and build project will replace the existing building in Maesgeirchen, Bangor, which houses 230 pupils. Wynne Construction’s work will include the demolition of the existing school, extensive landscaping of the school grounds and a new outdoor play and educational area. The school is due to open in autumn 2017.

The £10m investment at Coleg Cambria’s Bersham Road campus, Wrexham, includes the design and build of a state-of-the-art engineering building.

Wynne Construction will also demolish a number of smaller, detached buildings .as well as refurbishing a further three existing buildings within the campus.

The redevelopment will increase student capacity, as well as the number of courses available on campus, which focuses on vocational subjects including joinery, motor vehicle engineering, plastering and plumbing.

Chris Wynne, managing director of Wynne Construction, said: “We’re very pleased to have won all four projects, having built up a wealth of experience in schools and colleges of further and higher education through North Wales and the North West.

“As with all of our projects, we’ll be using a supply chain of businesses from across North Wales, who will also benefit from the contracts.

“We’ll also be looking to provide training opportunities including work experience placements and apprenticeships as well as engaging with local residents in supporting community benefits on the sites.”

These latest projects have been partly funded by the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools Programme, and are part of the Welsh Government’s £200m Schools and Public Buildings Contractor Framework for North Wales.
