WiredScore accreditation sees The Shard recognised as one of UK's most digitally-connected buildings
One of London’s landmark skyscrapers, The Shard, has achieved a top accreditation in recognition of its digital-connectivity credentials.
The building, which is one of the most recognisable structures in the City of London, has been awarded a Platinum rating by international accreditors Wiredscore, the highest certification possible.
It means the building, which is managed by Real Estate Management (REM), becomes one of only seven in the capital which have been awarded the marquee rating, with the likes of the Leadenhall Building and Workspace Group’s The Metal Box Factory also boasting world-class connectivity ratings.
Commenting on the new certification, Michael Baker, who is Chief Executive at REM, said: “Resilience and connectivity used to be solely the domain of a company’s CTO or IT director, but in today’s increasingly digital world it affects every employee from the sales team to the CEO.
“We understand the importance of good technology infrastructure for our occupiers and have worked hard to ensure we are providing numerous, diverse supplies.
“The Shard’s Platinum Certification provides an important seal of approval for businesses looking for resilient and connected office space in London. Achieving WiredScore’s highest certification underscores our commitment to the needs of our occupiers.”
WiredScore was launched last year by the Mayor of London as a means to both recognise high standards of digital infrastructure in the city’s workplaces and encourage landlords to prioritise digital connectivity in their buildings.
William Newton, UK Director, WiredScore, believes the ‘world-class connectivity’ standards at the Shard is befitting some of the international businesses currently housed in the building.
He said: “Achieving Platinum status means that occupiers have access to the very latest technology and telecommunications infrastructure, enabling them to compete in the global, digital economy and drive growth.
“This accreditation sends a signal to entrepreneurs and ambitious businesses that The Shard is a fully optimised building, future-proofed for success and innovation.”
The skyscraper, dubbed ‘the vertical city’, currently houses the likes of Sage and Gallup and has welcomed marketing firm Jellyfish and Matchesfashion.com this year.
