Doncaster pie maker sees sales spike in farm shop and deli market

The Topping Pie Company, a Doncaster-based family run bakery, has seen sales from farm shops, delis, garden centres and independent retailers double in the last quarter.

This spike in sales follows on from the bakery attending the Farm Shop & Deli trade show earlier this year.

The pie maker has secured 20 new customers taking a combination of its deli and pre-pack pie and quiche ranges. All products are handcrafted using British Red Tractor pork meat.

Deli range products include Traditional pork pies, Speciality Dinky Topped pork pies; Speciality Pork Pies, Speciality Cutting pies; Gala pies, Celebration pork pies, Hot eating pies and savouries, as well as quiches.

The increased independent customer base has seen the bakery’s weekly sales in this sector increase from £5K to around £10K over the last trading quarter.

Matthew Topping, sales director, The Topping Pie Company said: “As farm shops, independent delis and speciality retailers become more competitive, they seek quality products that offer food to go and deli counters a real point of difference.

“We are delighted with the interest in the deli and pre-pack range to date.”

Founded in 1961 as a small family butchers shop, The Topping Pie Company is now a multi-award winning speciality pie business supplying a wide range of handcrafted products to retail, independents, wholesale and export customers.
