Liverpool John Lennon prepares for busiest Bank Holiday weekend in years
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is expecting the coming Bank Holiday to deliver its busiest weekend in five years.
LJLA bosses have forecast around 70k holidaymakers to pass through the airport over the course of the extended weekend (August 26 - 29), which would represent a year-on-year passenger increase of 8%.
The airport is already celebrating steady growth in 2016, with close to 350k people having chosen to use LJLA so far this year.
This weekend, the majority of holidaymakers are expected to jet off to warmer climes, including sunshine resorts on the Mediterranean, while short breaks to European cities and further afield – including Aer Lingus’ service to New York via Dublin – are also forecast to be popular.
Six new services have launched at LJLA this year, including Spanish carrier Vueling’s new flights to Tenerife. Additionally, a number of airlines have ramped up frequencies on existing routes.
LJLA said growth is likely to continue throughout 2016, with Irish airline Ryanair’s new route to the capital of Bulgaria due to commence this autumn.
Liverpool airport’s head of PR, Robin Tudor, said: “It’s been our best summer for many years in terms of passenger numbers and the August Bank Holiday weekend is set to be our busiest weekend of the year once again, with passengers from across the region taking advantage of the convenience of flying from Liverpool with even more great destinations now available.”
