Six-figure revenue boost for Newcastle eateries in ‘most successful’ Restaurant Week yet
This summer’s Restaurant Week in Newcastle has been deemed the most successful yet after over 40,000 diners took advantage of cut price meals in early August.
With a record number of 93 Tyneside eateries taking part in the NE1-organised event, including a number of first-time participants, the event has delivered an extra £500k revenue for restaurants across Newcastle.
The event, which is now in its fifth successive year, also significantly boosted customer numbers with some restaurants registering a 180% year-on-year increase in footfall between Monday 8 August to Sunday 14 August.
Modelled after a similar event in New York, the event is masterminded by business improvement group NE1 in conjunction with city centre restaurants and runs twice a year in January and August.
Stephen Patterson, Director of Communications at NE1 Ltd commented: “2016 has been a great year for the restaurant industry in Newcastle with a cluster of new venues opening across the city.
“Newcastle’s restaurant community is one of the city’s largest growth sectors and NE1 is delighted to be able to support it through initiatives like Restaurant Week, which adds another dimension to the city centre offer.”
One restaurant that was participating in its maiden Restaurant Week was Caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay in The Gate, and Assistant Manager, Dee Manzini, was effusive about the benefits of participation.
She said: “We were delighted with our first NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week – the restaurant has never been so busy. It was a great way for new diners to experience the Caribbean flavor of Turtle Bay and hopefully become regular customers all year round.”
