£500k national hotel contract for Macclesfield-based Tomkinson Heating
Tomkinson Heating Ltd, the family-run heating system company, is set to deliver on a contract for UK hospitality group QHotels with £156k in funding from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
The contract, worth £500k, will see the Macclesfield-based firm install combined heating and power (CHP) systems at a number of the company’s hotels across the UK.
The first site to receive Tomkinson’s CHP will be the Ashford International Hotel in Kent, which is aiming to halve its energy costs over a 10-year period. Following the Ashford International project, Tomkinson will work on another QHotels Group site in Crewe.
The company’s CHP systems generate gas into electricity, producing savings of 35% on current electric costs. Tomkinson charges the hotel an amount for the energy costs each month to allow the 140kw CHP unit to be installed for free.
The business was founded in 1951, with current boss Steve Tomkinson having taken over from his father 35 years ago. Today, Tomkinson Heating employs more than 30 people.
With the new hotel contract in place, managing director Steve intends to grow the firm’s turnover from £2.4m to £3m by the end of the year.
Steve said: “We have diversified over recent years and still look to the domestic side of our business as our bread and butter whilst expanding our commercial side with our specialist knowledge of gas and wood chip CHP systems.
“Our recent contract win (among others) will boost our revenue organically to help us get a foothold in the leisure industry which we fully intend to build on purely down to the energy costs saved per year.”
Andrew Adshead, a senior relationship manager with RBS, commented: “The Tomkinson family have been well known to us over a number of years.
“Each generation has something new to explore in their field and this helps them experience further growth.”
He continued: “We are delighted to support Steve and the team with the latest round of funding and allow them to work with a major hotel group which moving forward they will look to replicate across other hotel groups here in the UK.”
