Ubamarket plots 5,000 store expansion after launch of 'magic shopping list' app
London startup Ubamarket’s ‘magic shopping list’ app has officially launched this week ahead of a wider roll-out to over 5,000 stores nationwide.
The app went live yesterday (Thursday) at an outlet of Budgen’s supermarket in Moreton-in- Marsh, Gloucestershire, which has been specially selected as the first store to be fully compatible with the app.
Thought up by entrepreneur Will Broome, the app automatically arranges a shopper’s list depending on the position of items in store, allowing users to scan items as they go and automatically tally up loyalty points before paying for their shopping with their smartphone.
The app has launched in association with point of sale and loyalty provider HTEC Ltd, and is designed to be fully compatible with their technology, meaning the app has the potential to be rolled out to over 5,000 stores, including brands such as Morrisons, Spar and Nisa, who are currently utilising HTEC’s systems.
Guy Warner, Managing Director of Warner’s Budgens Supermarkets commented: “I’m delighted to be the first store in the world to offer Ubamarket to our Taste Club members and customers.
“I feel that this revolutionary new app will effectively bridge the gap between online convenience and the in-store experience that Warner’s Budgens shoppers enjoy.”
Speaking to Bdaily back in August, Will said early reactions to his new app had been overwhelmingly positive: “Everyone I’ve mentioned it to, all the few people I’ve mentioned it to, everyone keeps saying that it’s the most amazing idea.”
