Work underway on £5.5m Wirral windfarm base

Construction work is now underway on global offshore energy firm DONG’s new £5.5m operations and maintenance facility in Seacombe.

Oldham-based Robertson North West, part of the £300m-turnover infrastructure company Robertson, is now on-site at Kings Wharf in the entrance to the Birkenhead dock system.

Once operational, the facility will house 45 full-time staff and serve the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm, in addition to the Burbo Bank Extension due for completion next year.

The site will comprise a single storage warehouse along with office space, changing, welfare and ancillary facilities across two floors.

Robertson North West’s regional managing director, Carl Wilde, said: “We are delighted to start construction on this exciting development that will regenerate a site in an important docklands location.

“We look forward to working closely with DONG Energy to deliver this project, and providing them with a quality base from which they can operate and maintain their wind farms.”

Brian McMorrow, senior construction engineer with DONG Energy, commented: “It was important for us to use a regionally based construction company so we’re really pleased to be working with Robertson North West.

“DONG Energy is committed to investing in the UK and we are very proud to be playing an important role in the redevelopment of this part of Kings Wharf.”

The Seacombe windfarm base is scheduled for completion in mid-2017.
