Clerkenwell eatery serving up ‘mindful food’ to open next week
Counter Kitchen, the all-day ‘mindful food’ restaurant, is set to open in Clerkenwell next week.
Serving up breakfast and lunch in the burgeoning tech startup hub, the new restaurant on Goswell Road will provide a seasonal menu featuring en vogue food and drink to the area’s creative community.
Based around the concept of healthy, nutrient-rich foods, the restaurant nods towards the current mindful eating craze which encourages people to eat healthily, along with intent and attention, as opposed to distractedly throwing processed foods down their neck.
Headed up by Chef Matt Edwards, who has previous experience at Soho’s Quo Vadis and The Harwood arms, the menu includes hip dishes such as Avocado Toast topped with kimchi, almond butter toast and its own ‘warming bowls’ such as Korean-influenced kimchi and beef broth.
Commenting on the ethos behind the restaurant, founder Benjamin Meyer, said that he and co-founder William Heath have made a conscious effort to do away with ‘artificial flavours, refined sugars and preservatives’ to focus on balanced and nutritious meals.
He added: “Our philosophy of ‘Because Mother Nature Nailed it’ drives our love of the world’s natural flavours; picking only the most flavoursome ingredients for our dishes.”
Kitted out with a terraced area and an in-house barista, Counter Kitchen is set to soft launch on Monday 10 October before an official launch on Thursday 13 October, with Meyer and Heath already plotting more locations in the near future.
“People are caring more than ever about what they are eating. We are excited for Counter Kitchen to meet that demand in Clerkenwell,” Meyer said.
