Ryanair to create 3500 jobs across UK and Europe

Irish airline Ryanair has unveiled plans to create thousands of jobs during the next 12 months as it looks to expand its fleet.

The carrier will make 3,500 new roles available, including 1,000 pilots and 2,000 cabin crew. The firm will also be hiring engineers and creating support positions at its offices in Dublin.

Ryanair has said the jobs will be spread throughout its “84-base European network”.

According to Sky News, the company will be recruiting cabin crew at each of its UK bases despite announcing last month that the 50 new aircraft in its expanded fleet will be housed overseas – a decision Ryanair blamed on Brexit.

Discussing that investment move, the airline’s chief exec, Michael O’Leary, said: “We’re being very cautious about the amount of capacity we’re allocating to the UK over the next two or three years until we get some kind of indication of what Brexit will look like.

“It’s not because we’re annoyed or anything with the UK, but we have much more political certainty in continental Europe than we have in the UK while they’re all running around trying to work out what Brexit looks like.”

Ryanair currently employs 11.5k staff and operates with 355 planes. The firm is aiming to increase its fleet to more than 500 over the next five years.

Last month, the carrier achieved a 13% rise in passenger figures.
