Bars and restaurants feel the benefit as Night Tube boosts West End footfall
Businesses in London’s West End and on Oxford Street are reaping the benefits following the launch of the Night Tube after reporting an increase in footfall since the service launched in August.
It comes as the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announces that the Northern Line Night Tube is to launch on Friday 18 November adding to the current services on the Central and Victoria Line.
Launched to much fanfare in the summer, the night-time programme has now supported over three quarters of a million journeys, which has exceeded initial expectations, and is predicted to contribute an extra £77m a year to the capital’s economy.
The night service on the Jubilee line is to launch tonight and will service key London venues including the O2, Wembley Stadium and the South Bank.
Ahead of tonight’s launch, Khan commented: “There was a real buzz from when we launched the first Night Tube services in August, and I am delighted that the Jubilee line services are now up and running.
“Hundreds of thousands of Londoners have already benefited, and it’s great news that so many more will now be able to enjoy our world-class cultural venues on the South Bank, as well as venues such as The O2 and Wembley Stadium, without needing to make that late dash for the last Tube.
“Being from Tooting, I’m also really looking forward to the start of services on the Northern line next month.”
The November launch of the Northern Line night-time route will run from High Barnet and Edgware, via the Charing Cross to Morden, and open up hotpots including Clapham and Camden for diners, revellers and night workers.
