Leeds’ Merrion Centre welcomes record number of shoppers in Q3

The Merrion Centre, the shopping centre in Leeds city centre, experienced a record breaking number of visitors over the third quarter of 2016.

Footfall across the centre reached a new high in July, August and September, with almost 2.75 million visits throughout the three month period.

This number of visitors is up by almost 7% on the corresponding period in 2015.

The Merrion Centre welcomed more than 875,000 visitors in each of the three months, with September peaking at 931,000.

Visits in July and August were up 7% and 13% respectively, at 890,173 and 888,881 people.

The Merrion Centre has brought a series of new names to Leeds city centre over recent months, including football club Leeds United, specialist craft beer and ale bar The Dockyard, and value grocery retailer Heron Foods.

Edward Ziff, chairman and chief executive of Town Centre Securities PLC, said: “It’s always pleasing to be able to report positive visitor numbers for the Merrion Centre and we continue to be grateful to our loyal customers.

“It’s also testament to the exciting range of shops, services and ever growing leisure offering at the Merrion Centre that we continue to win new visitors to the shopping centre amidst growing competition.

“We have a really exciting calendar of events planned for the whole family over the festive season and look forward to continuing to offer the best choice and variety to our customers over the coming months.”
