Andrew Jackson appointed to act for development partners in £80m rejuvenation of Hull’s Fruit Market

The property department at regional law firm Andrew Jackson is acting for the local partners spearheading the £80m regeneration of Hull’s Fruit Market.

The law firm has been appointed to advise The Fruit Market LLP, a joint venture comprising regeneration company Wykeland Group, residential developer Beal Homes and Hull City Council, on the granting of leases relating to several commercial units located within the Fruit Market.

Wykeland Beal is set to transform the Fruit Market into an urban village featuring business, arts, culture, retail and leisure uses, together with new, mews-style homes.

The Fruit Market will create independent shops, boutiques, galleries, cafes and restaurants in an area that we be showcased during Hull’s year as UK City of Culture in 2017 and beyond.

Regeneration work currently underway includes new and refurbished commercial, retail and leisure space focused on Humber Street. A limited number of commercial units are now available to let, with occupation by autumn 2016, and further releases in 2017.

The regeneration scheme also includes 109 mews-style one, two and three bedroom homes around private courtyards.

Paul Barker, partner and head of property at Andrew Jackson, said: “The Fruit Market has been a hub of economic activity for 200 years and was the centre of the city’s wholesale fruit and vegetable trade until 2009, when we acted for all of the fruit traders in their relocation from Humber Street to their state of the art premises at Priory Park East.

“It is great to see the area’s ongoing rejuvenation from our Hull office on the fringes of the Fruit Market at Marina Court, developed by Wykeland, which is a long-standing client of the firm.”

David Donkin, property director of Wykeland, added: “Our vision for the Fruit Market as a unique, vibrant, cultural quarter where people live, work and play is being delivered right now, with almost £20m of investment completed or being developed within the Fruit Market area.

“Andrew Jackson has played a key role in the regeneration of the Fruit Market by becoming anchor tenant following our extensive refurbishment of Marina Court. We are pleased to continue to work with Andrew Jackson to secure further investment from high-quality commercial, leisure and retail operators into Hull’s first urban village.”
