Poké nom! New restaurant is bringing Hawaiian specialty to Soho

A new restaurant coming to Soho this autumn is set to give Londoners the opportunity to try one of Hawaii’s most famous dishes.

Island Poke, which is opening this month at Kingly Street in Carnaby, will be serving up fresh Hawaiian Poké with what is being billed as the capital’s first authentic Poké experience.

The dish, which has become a healthy eating sensation in the US, is a sashimi-style, raw fish salad consisting of a wide range of fresh and healthy ingredients.

Devised by Californian-born James Gould-Porter and business partner Tom Miller, the new restaurant will serve up breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, allowing diners to build their own bowls with selections including Ahi Tuna, citrus-marinated salmon and gold beetroot.

Customers will also be able to select from a menu of Poké House Bowls.

Gould-Porter said: “My first taste of authentic poké was in Maui when I was nine years old, and I was completely hooked. I’ve put heart and soul into Island Poké.

“The freshness and provenance of the ingredients we serve is incredibly important to us and we are thrilled to open our first restaurant in London. I hope diners will feel our passion and excitement when they visit Island Poké for the first time.”

The venture is backed by Miller who was previously Commercial Director of Soho House Group, and is currently Chief Executive of restaurant investment platform the White Rabbit Fund and hospitality group Good Life Projects.
