Confidential waste service launched

A waste management company has launched a new service aimed at preventing local businesses’ confidential material from ending up in the wrong hands.

Yorwaste’s service has been set up in response to UK and European legislation which requires companies to dispose of confidential waste in the correct manner.

The service covers everything from the shredding of paper through to the physical destruction of computers and even staff name badges and uniforms.

Gill Mulroe, Yorwaste Key Account Manager, said: “Whether you are a sole trader or a large public limited company, you have a duty of care to dispose of confidential waste in a safe and secure way.

“Failure to comply with UK and EU standards for records retention and management could result in a data breach which could land businesses with a £500,000 fine and damage the reputation of an organisation, perhaps even fatally.

“Our service will not only ensure that everyone complies with the law but it also has major environmental benefits as once the material is destroyed it can be recycled to be used again.”

Yorwaste provides secure waste ‘consoles’ for customers to deposit confidential waste items such as paper, CDs and badges, with separate collections being made for larger items, such as computers.

This material is then either shred or destroyed on the premises or taken to a secure facility. The whole process is full audited, with customers receiving a certificate of destruction at the end.

To mark the launch of its new service, Yorwaste is providing two waste consoles for the price of one. Further information is available from 0845 300 8889 or by emailing customerservices@yorwaste.co.uk
