Airbnb for fitness app launches nine-figure crowdfunding campaign
London-based WeTRAIN has today launched its £600k crowdfunding drive on Seedrs as it looks to spread its social-exercise concept across London.
The app, which officially launched in July, allows local hosts such as personal trainers and yoga instructors to post classes on the app which users can then search, browse and book through its platform.
Currently available across three locations in the capital, the startup has ambitious plans to rapidly spread across London and plans to launch its premium fitness concept, WeEXPERIENCE, if it meets its funding target.
Styling itself as a ‘fitness brunch’, the WeEXPERIENCE platform will offer one-off fitness experiences curated by UK health and fitness experts, which could see groups of friends trained by world athletes and joined by well-known sports and fitness figures for premium food events.
The startup has already lined up kickboxing world champion Ruqsana Begum for a kickboxing masterclass session and a superfood boxer’s breakfast.
Following the success of its Brixton and Clapham events, Adrian Mooney, WeTRAIN’s Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, commented: “WeTRAIN is proven to work, now we want to replicate our launch success in other parts of London and continue to challenge the status quo with our innovative WeEXPERIENCE offering.
“We are excited to free more Londoners from out-dated, restrictive membership models, help increase fitness professionals’ earnings by maximising their spare capacity and offer our customers the opportunity to be part of our future success by owning shares in the business through Seedrs.”
The startup has already drawn backing from the entertainment and leisure sector, with Vue Cinema founder Tim Richards currently sitting on its advisory board.
