Fast growing construction specialist opens new Amble unit
A Northumberland-based construction firm has opened new premises in Amble to expand its manufacturing output and facilitate the growth of its new subsidiary.
Smailes Construction, whose head office is situated in The Fourways in the centre of Amble, was launched by David Smailes three years ago.
After increasing its turnover from an initial £500k to £1.5m in its second year of trading, the business is anticipated to top the £2m mark this year.
The specialist construction firm has enjoyed such continued growth that it has now launched huxmar, a subsidiary specialising in designing and building summerhouses and kitchens.
The expansion now sees Smailes take on a new unit, signing a five-year lease on new premises at Amble Industrial Estate, Amble.
To mark the occasion Mr Smailes was recently joined by staff, supply chain partners, students from James Calvert Spence Spence College (JCSC) and England and Newcastle United footballing legend, Peter Beardsley, at an official opening event.
The new unit, will not only double up as a workshop for the assembly and manufacture of bespoke joinery items, it will also be a dedicated showroom for huxmar’s range of kitchen and summerhouse products.
David Smailes said: “In the past three years we have seen significant growth in annual turnover together with an increase in opportunities to win work across a diverse range of sectors including education and commercial property as well as high-end residential property.
“The increase in demand from the private client sector led to the launch of huxmar and hence the need to take on more space.
“The new showroom will allow us to grow the huxmar brand, as prospective clients are able to see first-hand the range of kitchens available and the standard of workmanship they can expect when choosing to work with us.”
