Oldham-headquartered MID Communications acquires six O2 stores

MID Communications Limited, an independent franchise of Greater Manchester-based O2 franchise Telefonica UK, has expanded in the region with the acquisition of six additional retail units.

The new stores, which MID Communications said make it one of the North West’s largest independent O2 franchises, were purchased from Formby Connections Ltd and Levine Retail Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

Following the deal, MID Communications has added Ashton-under-Lyne, Preston, Maghull, Rochdale, Kirkby and the Fort Manchester retail park to its growing list of locations.

Oldham-headquartered MID Communications was founded in 2006 by its directors, Danny Simpson and brothers Andrew and Ian Murray, and now employs over 170 people across 16 shops in the North West.

Danny Simpson, sales director at MID Communications, said: “We are a passionate team with a desire to succeed and drive the O2 brand products and services to be the best O2 franchise in the UK.

“These acquisitions will benefit our employees, the business and our customers.”

He continued: “It also enables our business to invest money in developing our working practices and creating a fantastic service offering.

“We’re also able to invest more money into our people as one of our objectives is to become an employer of choice.”

MID Communications was advised on the purchases by the corporate finance team at North West accountants Moore and Smalley, headed up by corporate finance senior manager Paul Bennett with support from tax planning manager David Hackett and corporate partner Damian Walmsley.

Paul commented: “MID Communications has been successful because it has a very clear and well thought-out growth strategy.

“These acquisitions mark the latest stage of that plan and give the business excellent financial growth potential.”

Formby Connections Ltd and Levine Retail Ltd were advised on the sale by Keith Melling, partner and head of law firm Napthens’ commercial division.

Keith said of the transaction: “Our clients’ businesses are a perfect strategic fit for MID Communications and add to its overall offering.

“The owners are proud to see the business they have created fit into an expanding and well respected company that provides an excellent service to business and consumer customers.”

The Napthens team included Paul Hardy from the commercial Property department and Gareth McIntegart and David Carr from the firm’s corporate team.
