Manchester’s Urban Green unlocks jobs and turnover growth
Design and environmental consultancy Urban Green has created more than a dozen employment opportunities with Business Growth Hub support.
In the last year, the Manchester-based firm said it recruited 14 new staff and more than doubled its turnover.
Urban Green was founded in 2005 as a one-person startup but today employs a team of 23 at its office in Ancoats Urban Village, where it moved last month.
Nicola Warwick, mentoring advisor at the Hub, worked with Urban Green bosses Martin King and Scott Fitzgerald to develop the company’s five-year strategy for continued growth and diversification.
Nicola introduced Martin and Scott to Howard Simms, chief executive of tech firm Apadmi Ventures, who provided further mentoring support based on his leadership experience.
Urban Green provides ecology, digital imagery, landscape architecture and urban design services for clients such as Manchester City Council, investment firm Peel and various housebuilders and developers.
Managing director Scott said: “The growth we have experienced in the past year has been incredible. Since 2005, we have diversified to provide a number of new services for our clients, including landscape planning and digital imagery.
“The new office move is an indicator of our continued growth. Nicola has been fantastic to us and the business has benefitted from her expertise. She took the time to understand our culture and introduced us to a network of relevant contacts to expand as a business, many of which we still have relationships with today.”
He added: “I cannot thank Nicola and the Hub enough for the service we have received. With their support, I’m sure we can achieve our strategy of continued growth.”
Nicola Warwick commented: “Urban Green is a brilliant business that creates sustainable and innovative landscape designs, making a real difference to residents and local communities across the UK.
“The creation of 14 jobs and 100% turnover growth is testament to Scott and Martin’s dedication and hard work, I look forward to continuing to work with them to drive further expansion and build on the momentum they’ve worked so tirelessly to generate.”
