Sheffield Grade-II listed, Victorian building comes to market
A former Grade-II listed school in Sheffield has hit the market for just under £1m.
Designed by Sheffield architects Innocent & Brown in the Victorian era, Players House dates back to 1874 and was amongst the earliest schools in England to be built after the 1870 Education Act.
The Gothic revival style property on Attercliffe Common was built for the Sheffield School Board.
The current owners converted the building into contemporary office space befitting one of the largest marketing agencies in the North.
Peter Whiteley, head of office at Knight Frank in Sheffield, said: “In recent years, the building was Players bar and restaurant and was then bought by Dig for Fire, who subsequently became Jaywing.
“Jaywing will be vacating in April 2017 and therefore will have the building with vacant possession.
“Our clients are willing to consider either a letting or a sale of the building as a whole, which provides a quality mix of open plan and cellular space in a unique setting, totalling approximately 9,100 sq ft with generous on-site car parking provision with 61 spaces.
“This is an interesting building occupying a prominent position on the main Attercliffe frontage, well located close to the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield Arena and Meadowhall.
“It is also located in part of Sheffield that is experiencing major development and growth with the IKEA development now underway and extensions to Meadowhall planned.”
Players House fronts onto Attercliffe Road, one of the main arterial links through Sheffield city centre through to the Don Valley to Meadowhall and Junction 34 of the M1.
Nearby office occupiers include South Yorkshire Police Authority, Santander, Barclays Bank and Sodexho plus car dealerships such as Porsche and Mercedes.
Peter added: “Players House offers a unique opportunity within Sheffield and provides an attractive working environment within a period building.
“The accommodation is over three levels together with associated kitchen, breakout and toilet areas.
“Dig For Fire also obtained planning permission to expand the building offering greater flexibility of use – something that is not easily secured with listed buildings.”
The property is available to let on a new lease at £11 per sq ft per annum or alternatively, a sale will be considered at £950k plus VAT.
