Liverpool John Lennon Airport invests £4m in Departure Lounge refurb

The latest phase of a multi-million pound project to improve the customer experience for departing passengers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is now underway.

Around £4m is being invested in a refurb and upgrade of 21,500 sq ft of the upper floor of the airport’s Departure Lounge, bringing the space in line with other areas that have undergone similar improvements during the last 18 months.

To deliver the project ahead of the peak Summer season next year, LJLA is utilising the services of local building and shop-fit firms.

The development will include a reconfigured retail area, new washroom facilities, large flight information screens and new seating to help to create a lighter, brighter environment for passengers.

Earlier in 2016, the airport completed the first phase of terminal improvements after investing £2.5m in new and improved facilities with the aim of enhancing the customer experience.

How the new Departure Lounge could look

The interim commercial manager at LJLA, David Taylor, said: “We are looking to create a real ‘wow factor’ for passengers as we welcome them into the Departure Lounge, further enhancing the customer experience and building on the really positive passenger feedback following the completion of the first phase of terminal improvements earlier this year.

“We believe these latest improvements and additions to the lounge will continue to grow our reputation as the Faster, Easier, Friendlier Airport of choice for passengers as we look to create the airport our region loves.”

The Departure Lounge improvement works are due for completion in June 2017.
