Leeds-based Castlehouse Construction delivers 12th Lidl supermarket

Leeds-based Castlehouse Construction has completed and handed over a newly built Lidl supermarket on the High Street in Royton, Oldham.

The 25,000 sq ft single storey supermarket at land bounded by High Street, Middleton Road and Croft Head, was completed on 15 September and forms part of the £22.5m Royton regeneration scheme.

With a £3.4m investment, the fully integrated new supermarket features 98 short stay car parking spaces and will play a major role in developing the new retail core site for Royton.

The regeneration includes town hall and library refurbishment, a new health centre, retention and enhancement of the market, improved car parking and works to the precinct and pedestrian environment.

Castlehouse Construction is on track to deliver 13 supermarkets for Lidl, including five new builds, three refurbishments and five bakeries, as part of Lidl’s national expansion programme.

The German supermarket chain now boasts more than 700 stores around the UK.

Frank Kofler, director of Castlehouse Construction, said: “The Royton store continues our long-standing relationship with Lidl and is the thirteenth project we have undertaken for the leading retailer.

“The works progressed smoothly on-site and we are delighted to have handed over the new store to Lidl.”
