Sky Betting & Gaming undergoes major expansion at Wellington Place Leeds

Sky Betting & Gaming has undergone a significant expansion at Wellington Place Leeds, which now brings its total presence to 80,000 sq ft.

The independent online gambling firm has doubled its workspace within the city centre tech hub, taking over floors two and three of building number six, in addition to its current HQ over three floors at building number two.

As part of the expansion, the 150 strong tech team is being split into 15 autonomous squads, located in zones with tailored and visible live management information, moveable dry wipe walls, showcase whiteboards and hot desk workstations.

SB&G, which provided one in every 100 digital jobs in Leeds city centre last year, has designed new office environments centred on the company’s productive agile way of working.

Research by Oxford Economics last year indicated Sky Betting & Gaming employees are five times as productive as an average employee in Yorkshire and the Humber and the new office is set to see this develop even further.

A whole floor is dedicated to customer operations, trading and social teams, with new training facilities and a customer interview suite that broadcasts live end user feedback to product teams.

There is a football pitch for company-wide stand up meetings, tech bars and booths and an in-house concession of local caterers Sociable Folk called SoFo Extra Time.

Interactive HD touch screens, lounges, two fully equipped kitchen areas, industrial graffitied storage container bunkers for meetings, a putting green and even an indoor roundabout complete the new workspace.

Paul McCormick, head of technology in the Bet Tribe, commissioned the research into the new building functionality.

He said: “This marks a huge step-change for us in realising our growth ambitions. It’s been important to have a purpose built space to grow the business, improve efficiency, improve retention and explore innovation, designed for everyone.

“The bet floor is a concept for teams whose day-to-day work isn’t task or process driven and is tailored in an open plan way.

“This motivates our people who creative problem solve, giving them autonomy, a sense of ownership and an environment to complement the strides we’ve made in developing efficient working practices.”

Councillor James Lewis, deputy leader of Leeds City Council, added: “Yorkshire tech is thriving and success stories such as Sky Betting & Gaming which is a businesses founded here, achieving scale and now seeking expansion overseas, are testament to Leeds capabilities as a destination for digital.”

The move allows the capacity to accommodate a growing headcount, providing an additional 460 desk spaces for the company’s bet, gaming, contact centre, customer operations and trading teams.

Solar panels on the roof provide enough energy to power the building’s communal areas and all lighting is LED to maximise energy efficiency.
