North East property consultants to support Co-op retail and funeralcare expansion

UK consumer cooperative the Co-op has appointed Newcastle and Teesside-based property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall to support the expansion of its convenience store and funeralcare businesses.

The consultants have been brought onboard as lease consultancy advisors for Co-op’s North East and Yorkshire region, and now means the North East firm are working with the mutual on three of its six UK property regions.

It comes as Co-op looks to expand its convenience store and funeralcare portfolio, with particularly strong growth in its retail business making it the fastest growing ‘non-discounter in the UK’, according to Co-op’s national estates manager, Alan Stell.

Stell added: “We have around 100 transactions taking place annually across the three regions that Sanderson Weatherall now handles for us.

“Due to this volume of activity, it’s vital that we have a lease consultancy team with expert market knowledge able to manage the scale of the work whilst also maintaining very high quality standards throughout.

“Having partnered with Sanderson Weatherall for the past eight years, we know they can deliver the standard of lease consultancy services required to enable us to actively manage our property portfolio.”

Employing over 200 people, Sanderson Weatherall has recently expanded its lease consultancy services across the UK, with offices in Newcastle, Teesside, York, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Bristol and Exeter.

Following this new agreement with Co-op, Sanderson Weatherall’s head of lease consultancy, David Rastrick, commented: “We’re delighted to provide our services to an additional region for Co-op. Our teams across our regional offices are looking forward to adding real value to their operations across the UK.”
