Five appointments, Tangerine Communications
Comms agency Tangerine has taken on five new recruits.
The firm has added to its B2C team with the appointment of Laura Weightman in the role of senior account director.
With more than nine years of experience gained at creative agencies, Laura has previously worked with Nestle Cereals, First Group, Johnson & Johnson and various other national and international brands.
Sarah Schofield, another new face in Tangerine’s B2C team, has joined the company from PR firm Mason Williams and has four years’ experience. At Tangerine, Sarah will help grow the company’s travel, lifestyle and hospitality offer using her four years’ experience in the industry.
Tangerine’s digital manager, Kineta Kelsall, is the third new recruit. Joining the agency from Manchester-based PR business Smoking Gun, Kineta previously worked at the Co-Operative Group and Meltwater. She will now work across the agency’s B2B and B2C clients, focusing on both rich and paid-for content.
The final addition to the consumer team is Emma Bowkett, who has taken on the role of account executive. She previously worked for London-based Hearst Magazines.
On the B2B side of its business, Tangerine has hired senior account manager Myriam Khan from Leeds agency Grayling. Myriam has experience in financial and professional services.

Nick Woodward, Dow Schofield Watts
Advisory firm Dow Schofield Watts (DSW) has announced the appointment of a partner in its new tax advisory arm.
Nick Woodward (pictured left), a specialist in mergers and acquisitions tax, has international business experience and joins DSW from private equity firm the Gores Group.
Heading up DSW Tax Advisory, Nick will work with other businesses within the group, including those in corporate finance and transaction services. He will also work alongside PHD Equity Partners, DSW’s private equity firm.
Nick, who has more than 18 years’ experience in finance and tax, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining a market leading team with an exceptional track record of success.
“Past experience has shown that a genuinely joined up approach to tax and structuring, with a commercially strategic mindset, adds significant deal value and I very much look forward to bringing that to the firm and our clients.”

Keith Middlebrough and Sarah Hall, Preston’s College
Preston’s College has made two senior appointments.
Keith Middlebrough and Sarah Hall will take up senior key account manager positions within the college’s ROI Solutions team.
Keith has worked with Preston’s College for the last eight years. Bringing over 20 years’ commercial experience to the role, Keith’s promotion will see him engage with the county’s employers across engineering, construction, gas and other sectors, helping ensure they have access to the skills needed.
Sarah Hall, meanwhile, will focus on helping local employers in the health and social care sectors to overcome skills shortages. She has over 20 years of experience in sales and management.
The head of employer engagement and recruitment at Preston’s College, Andrew Richardson, said: “Many of Lancashire’s key employment and economic sectors are suffering major shortfalls with construction and engineering needing 36,000 new workers a year to cover the deficit and two million additional staff required nationwide in health and social care by 2022.
“Sarah and Keith have great commercial links across Lancashire and will work with employers to create long-term skills solutions that ensure staff meet current and future needs.”
Dr Luke Hakes, UMI3 Ltd
The University of Manchester’s Innovation Company (UMI3 Ltd) is pleased to announce the appointment of new independent chairman Dr Luke Hakes.
Recruited following a search exercise carried out by the university with advice from headhunters Odgers Berndtson, Luke will begin in his new position on January 1 2017.
Luke is a triple graduate of the university, in biochemistry with biotechnology, bioinformatics and computational genetics. Having completed a PhD in 2006, he is currently investment director at London-based venture capital firm Octopus Ventures.
Since 2008 Luke has advised, and been a board member of, several university spin-out businesses.
He has also held non-executive directorships with various startup and growth enterprises, in addition to serving as an angel investor and advisor to early-stage companies.
Luke, who has a particular interest in the fields of artificial intelligence and genomics, said of his appointment: “I am delighted to be joining UMI3 as chairman.
“Universities play a hugely important role in fostering innovation and talent and nowhere is this more true than at The University of Manchester.”
He added: “I am incredibly excited to work with the fantastic team at UMI3 to support its continued growth and success.”

Shirley Hannan, Northern Health Science Alliance
The Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) has announced the appointment of Shirley Hannan.
Taking on the position of research coordinator and funding development manager, Shirley will bring more than 20 years of research management experience to the role.
For the last 11 years, Shirley worked within the The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences where she was involved in the administration of academic research activity, from supporting large funding applications to the development of research-related policies.
She said: “I am thrilled to be joining such an energetic team which is redefining the way in which people nationally and internationally are looking at the opportunities available in the North’s health science field.
“I am really excited about the huge amount of opportunities there is across the North of England for joint working and funding opportunities.”
NHSA chief executive Dr Hakim Yadi commented: “Shirley has a proven track record in supporting research grants, funding applications and cross-working in the academic research field.
“She brings on board a new skills set for the NHSA which will assist us in our work positioning the North as a world-leader in health science and I am delighted to welcome her on board with the team.”
