Castle racks up major contract win milestone

A recently secured multi-million pound contract has seen one of the UK’s leading building services design and installation contractors reach a significant milestone in the company’s history.

Since launching in 2002, Hebburn-based Castle Building Services Organisation (Castle) has racked up contracts totalling £175 million. A recent contract £3.3 million contract on a student accommodation development is being attributed to reaching the milestone.

Under the contract Castle will provide full mechanical and electrical (M&E) design and installation services on a 331-bed, 10-storey student accommodation scheme in Newcastle city centre.

Further to this win, in the last three months Castle has also secured orders worth over £12 million on schemes in North Ayrshire, Tarbolton, Dailly and Girvan and Largs Campus. These particular contracts span the primary and secondary education as well community and leisure sectors.

Established in 2002, by directors Allan Carr and Tony Lister, Castle has increased annual turnover year on year from £1,350,000 in its first year of trading to its present level of £36,000,000. Similarly, the team has grown significantly from the original 4 to its current level of 75.

Close to home, Castle has made its mark on the region’s education, hotel and commercial sectors providing a full range of M&E design and installation services on the redevelopment of the former Co-op store, Newcastle into a Premier Inn, the Central Station’s magnificent portico entrance into a covered space for retail units and additional self-service ticket machines. Most recently Castle completed work on Sunderland College’s Holmeside Vocational Campus, which is set to boost the fortunes of the city centre as it attracts students from further afield.

In 2014, building on its success and a steady growth in demand from main contractors for Castle’s innovative way of working, the company expanded into Scotland, launching a second office in East Kilbride. It soon became apparent that the contractor’s culture also suited the market in Scotland as Castle secured a number of major contracts with appointments to schemes such as the prestigious St Vincent Plaza, a speculative Grade A office and retail development in the heart of Glasgow; Caol Campus, a joint campus comprising two primary schools, a community centre and Library, in Fort William plus a number of hotel projects for major operators including Motel One, Ibis and Hampton by Hilton.

Speaking about this major milestone, Andy Dawson, who was recently promoted to commercial director said:

“Since launching, our main aims have been to focus on forging long-lasting relationships with clients by always providing them with a high level of service and creating sustainable employment. Despite a difficult recession period our business model was robust enough to see us through and allows us to continue to increase annual turnover. Since then we have taken the Castle model into Scotland where it continues to be a great success. Importantly, for any business, I’m very pleased to be able to say that a significant amount of our work comes from repeat business.”

Dawson continues;
