Adderstone Group work placement initiative celebrates thirteenth year.

Newcastle based property development company, Adderstone Group, has now successfully employed over 60 students through its work placement scheme, giving fresh young talent a great start on the professional ladder.

Adderstone Group recently welcomed this years’ cohort of students taking the total of students to over 60 in the last 13 years, giving them hands on experience of the real estate and development business.

This year’s students include 22-year-old Charlie Harkness from Corbridge, studying Estate Management at Northumbria University. He said: “Working within the Commercial Division will give me essential work based skills that I don’t think I would have experienced in a lecture theatre, as well as the opportunity to work on a broad range of projects.”

“I’m enjoying every minute of it and it has certainly enhanced my practical and theoretical knowledge of the industry, which will put me in a much better position going into my final year at University.”

The Group recently welcomed six work placement students in total, studying a range of built environment courses. Five of the undergraduates are enrolled at Northumbria University, studying courses such as; Estate Management, Planning and Development and Quantity Surveying, whilst one student is on placement from Leeds University, studying Building Surveying.

Students applying to join the scheme have the opportunity to work across the Group’s portfolio of businesses which include property development, commercial estates management, lettings and construction. They will all get real life, hands on experience working in small teams on exciting multi-million pound projects.

The popular scheme is set to enjoy yet more success in the future as a result of the positive response from students attending the Northumbria University Engineering, IT & Environment Fair. Adderstone Group have been working in partnership with Northumbria University for over 10 years and, after a large level of interest at the fair, the scheme is expected to be in high demand again with students from its University and further afield.

Allison Harrison, Group Operations Director at Adderstone Group continues to be delighted with the impact the work placement scheme has had on the company. She said: “In the last thirteen years, we have been able to work with a number of talented and motivated students. The scheme has been a success both for the students we recruit and for the vibrancy they add around the business. Many of the students we have welcomed have remained with us or returned to us long after their placements have ended which provides evidence that the scheme works and delivers great people into industry. “The students consistently bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the roles and, as a result, many have made a significant impression during their placements. The work they have done has been of great benefit to Adderstone Group, as well as to their career development and University studies.”

This year’s cohort of placement students will work on a selection of Adderstone Group’s multi-million-pound property developments, including a high-quality housing scheme proposed for Gosforth to be known as Christon Park, which comprises 51 large four bed family homes and a landmark apartment scheme on Newcastle’s famous Quayside.
