This week’s Yorkshire appointments
Wake Smith, the Sheffield-based solicitors, has appointed Suzanne Porter as a director in its private client team.
Suzanne brings experience in wills, probate applications and estate administration, inheritance tax planning, elderly client issues, powers of attorney, and trusts.
She also has previous experience in dealing with licensing issues for clients across the region and will continue offering this expertise as a director at Wake Smith.
Suzanne will work closely with the current head of the private client team, director Andrew Vidler, and will take over from him as head of the department with effect from May 2017.
Andrew said: “We are delighted that someone of Suzanne’s calibre has chosen to join the company at this exciting time, as we continue to grow and improve our services to our clients.
“Suzanne’s experience, her passion for her job, and her business acumen and development skills, will make her an invaluable asset to both the private client team and the company as a whole.

Suzanne qualified as a solicitor in 2002 at Favell, Smith & Lawson in Sheffield before moving to Cockertons in Bakewell in 2007 and becoming a partner. The Derbyshire firm merged with Taylor & Emmett three years ago.
Suzanne, as private client partner, was involved in the merger process and marketing the probate and private client department to raise the firm’s profile.
Nigel Roberts and Mary-Ann Philips, Lighthouse LLP
Lighthouse LLP, the Guiseley-based risk management expert, has announced the arrival of two new health and safety consultants.
Nigel Roberts and Mary-Ann Philips have been appointed to Lighthouse’s team of 12.
Having gained expertise on all aspects of health and safety management during his time as a Royal Marine, Nigel Roberts became a member of the Lighthouse team following his previous role as health, safety and environmental manager at HETA.
In his new role, Nigel will work with Lighthouse’s clients to deliver advice and support to help businesses understand their obligations, and implement a system to ensure compliance with them.
Mary-Ann Philips graduated g in 2016 with a BSC (Hons) safety, health and environmental management degree from Leeds Beckett University. She worked as a health and safety administrator alongside her studies.
Lighthouse was established in 2007 to provide a practical support service to its clientele of over 450 UK businesses, helping them to achieve compliance with UK health and safety, and employment law legislation.

Mitch Burke, BHP Financial Planning
BHP Financial Planning has expanded its team with the appointment of Mitch Burke.
Mitch joins the team as a financial planner based in the Cleckheaton office, and brings over 10 years of industry experience to his new role.
He has recently achieved the Advanced Diploma level to become a Chartered Financial Planner.
Mitch provides financial advice on pensions, inheritance tax and estate planning, protection and investments as well as Lifetime Cashflow Planning.
He also graduated with a Degree in Economics and previously worked at The Bartlett Group in Leeds.
Joy Clegg, BHP Financial Planning managing director, said: “Mitch is both highly qualified and has the experience needed to assist our private clients with all of their personal finance needs.
“He will no doubt be an asset to our team, which is continually expanding in response to high levels of demand for our services.”
Mark Pearce, Mills & Reeve
National law firm Mills & Reeve has appointed intellectual property specialist and ex-scientist Mark Pearce to its Leeds office.
The Leeds office has expanded its commercial offering recently with the launch of its corporate team headed by former Irwin Mitchell partner Paul Johnson, plus partner Simon Pedley leading its move into commercial disputes.
Mark, who also joins from Bond Dickinson as a partner, will be responsible for growing the firm’s national practice with Alasdair Poore, head of IP, and Claire O’Brien, head of IP litigation.
He will also focus on an intellectual property practice in Leeds and across the North alongside Paul Johnson and assist principal associate Paul Knight in the technology sector across Manchester, Leeds and the North of England.
Mark began his career as a physicist before training as a solicitor with Bristows, the specialist IP firm. He advises on all aspects of IP law and his client portfolio includes technology-based university spin-outs.
Alasdair Poore, head of IP, said: “Mark gives us a great opportunity to grow our national intellectual property practice by building a team in Leeds. His background and expertise makes him a perfect fit for Mills & Reeve.”

Pace
Pace, the Hull-based creative communications agency has expanded its team with five new appointments across its client services and digital teams.
Set up in 2015 by ex-KCOM director Anita Pace, Pace champions a mix of strategy, design, PR and digital expertise across earned, owned and paid media.
With twelve years’ experience across a range of marketing roles, Shirin Kemp has joined the company as marketing director, tasked with developing a growth plan while continuing to deliver services to existing clients.
Supporting Shirin are two new account managers, Chloe Hart and Abbi Winfield. Chloe joins the company having worked with some of the world’s largest FMCG brands including SC Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Philips Lighting and Unilever.
Abbi has six years’ experience in communications, having worked both agency-side and in-house across a number of sectors including travel, retail, food, chemicals and entertainment.
Pace has also built on its digital and content expertise with the hiring of digital marketing manager, Kaye Neylon, and content executive, Tom Mitchell.

Jordan Cranmer, Hannah McKillop and Andrew Shaw, Wish
Wish, the Wetherby-based marketing communications agency, has expanded its team with the addition of three new members of staff.
Andrew Shaw, who joins from Leeds Building Society, has been appointed as the new account manager.
Running projects for Wish Digital, Hannah McKillop has been appointed as digital project manager. With a degree in marketing from the University of Stirling, Hannah has worked previously on both the client and agency side.
Jordan Cranmer takes up the role of web and apps developer after gaining a computer science degree from the University of Hull.

Patrick Cotton, Airedale International Air Conditioning
Leeds-based Airedale International Air Conditioning has announced the appointment of Patrick Cotton as customer services manager.
The appointment follows the recent promotion of Adam Yarrington, the previous holder of the post, to product development director in December 2016.
Patrick joined Airedale in 2009 after having completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Leeds University, where he graduated with First Class Honours.
He originally started at Airedale as a design engineer in the product development team where he worked for 5 years, before acquiring the role of research team leader in the research division of the R&D team in 2014.
In his new role, Patrick’s remit includes responsibility for the applications engineering, contracts, sales order processing, project engineering and drawing office teams. He will also head up the design of customised units for complex projects.
Patrick said: “I am excited to become part of Airedale’s continuous commitment to both our customers and process improvement throughout the business.
“We have a dedicated Customer Services team, which I am thrilled to now be a part of, and we plan to make further strides forwards in satisfying our client base.”
Patrick will commence his new role with immediate effect.
Charlotte Goldthorpe, Capital B Media
Charlotte Goldthorpe has joined South Yorkshire media training and PR consultancy Capital B Media, as an account manager.
Charlotte joins Capital B Media from a West Yorkshire-based PR and social media agency.
In her new role, Charlotte will be managing accounts and working with key clients in Capital B Media’s PR portfolio, which includes national Japanese food supplier SushiSushi, Sheffield City Region Growth Hub, Enterprising Barnsley, Letting Co, and national charities Anxiety UK and Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK.
Charlotte brings expertise in PR and social media strategy having previously worked in-house for major plc Marshalls, based in Elland, and for a Brighouse-based PR agency.
Charlotte is an accredited PR practitioner and member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and continues to complete a continued professional development programme, which she adds to her BA (Hons) degree in journalism from the University of Huddersfield.
She said: “I am delighted to have joined such an experienced and talented team at Capital B Media and to be based in such a beautiful part of Yorkshire.
“South Yorkshire’s thriving business community means there’s plenty to talk about and I’m looking forward to working with a diverse range of clients in Barnsley, Sheffield and beyond.”
