20 jobs created as new independent restaurant launches Brazilian Rodizio on York's Micklegate

A new restaurant offering authentic Brazilian Rodizio has created 20 jobs after opening on Micklegate in York.

Micklegate is emerging as a dining hotspot in York city centre, with new cuisine, cafes and bars and independent hospitality businesses opening on the street.

The latest edition to the street is the brand new authentic Brazilian Rodizio restaurant, Vaqueiros, set in the location that was previously occupied by Silvanos.

Richard Beal, a York-based restaurateur and owner, has collaborated on the venture with head chef and partner, Eduardo Caetano, who, Brazilian himself, wanted to bring the first authentic Brazilian Rodizio to the city.

Rodizio means rotating, referring to the way the passadors (meat carvers) pass from one table to another carving freshly cooked cuts of meats.

The salad bar and buffet offers traditional side dishes authentic to the Brazilian cuisine, to compliment all the meats, fish and vegetarian options available.

Eduardo said: “We’ve worked hard to make sure we do real justice to the food prepared and served at Vaqueiros, from our carefully selected team who come from a background of this type of service style, to where we source the ingredients, locally and from Brazil, we ensure the highest standards and the most authentic experience for our guests.”

Richard commented: “It’s a lovely location and I think Micklegate is really up and coming street again, with a lot of interesting things going on in the area, and it’s a vibrancy that we would like to add to.”
