Leeds engineering consultancy Adept uses £40k investment to acquire new surveying technology
Adept Consulting Engineers, the Leeds-based civil and structural engineering consultancy, has used part of a £40k investment to launch a laser point cloud scanning service.
The cloud scanning service enables the company to produce highly detailed and accurate 3D models of buildings, landscapes and sites.
The technology uses lasers to measure and capture environments in 3D, and Adept is already using it on a retail refurbishment at Liverpool’s Aintree Shopping Park.
Adept is responsible for both the civil and structural engineering design of the project, which will see a vacant store owned by Crown Estates transformed into a purpose designed 8,000 square metre unit for retail giant Next.
Erol Erturan, managing director at Adept, said: “This technology enables us to accurately map a huge range of buildings and landscapes, that can range from tens right up to thousands of square metres, in a matter of hours.
“The benefits of this are endless for engineers, architects, construction companies, CAD professionals and anyone else who requires fast and efficient mapped models and technical drawings of buildings and sites.
“It’s also accurate down to 2mm over a distance up to 330 metres which makes it much more reliable than traditional surveying methods.
“The technology is ideal for Next’s new store in Aintree. Once we had mapped the building internally and externally, we were able to circulate the technical drawings to the architects and all relevant contractors, meaning everyone working on the project is using the same plans, which will increase the efficiency of the team overall.”
Adept was founded in 2007 and employs a team of 30 in Leeds, Manchester and London, predominantly working across the commercial, warehousing, retail, educational, healthcare, and residential sectors, providing a full range of civil and structural engineering solutions.
