Plymouth law firm supports Cornwall-based education centre
The Plymouth office of national law firm Bond Dickinson has offered its services pro-bono to not-for-profit environmental adventure centre, Camp Kernow, enabling the organisation to renew its lease for a further 21 years.
Acting on behalf of Camp Kernow, solicitor Krista McCarthy led on the negotiations and successfully completed the lease renewal for the centre, so it could continue to deliver school and summer adventure camps for children at its site near Truro.
Camp Kernow is an award-winning organisation with an innovative off-grid residential centre dedicated to reconnecting and engaging children with the natural environment and inspiring them to live more sustainably. Harnessing renewable energy and employing sustainable technology including composting toilets, reed-beds, a solar powered water pumping and filtration system and solar thermal heated showers, the camp is thought to be the only carbon neutral activity centre in the UK, enabling children to understand and experience a new way of living in balance with nature, its ecological systems and resources.
Krista McCarthy said: “We have been working with Camp Kernow for a number of years and so when they approached us to ask if we could support them pro-bono, we immediately said yes. Supporting our local community is core to Bond Dickinson’s values and we’re delighted to have been able to help the centre so it can continue the important educational work it aims to provide to our region.”
Camp Kernow founder Charlie Nicholson added: “We want to say a huge thank you to Bond Dickinson for negotiating and securing a long-term lease for the organisation– we’re delighted that Camp Kernow has security for the next 21 years and can continue to educate children about sustainability and the natural environment through hands-on experience, adventure and exploration. Once more, thanks to Krista and the team at Bond Dickinson for your time and all your hard work to make this possible.”
