Sheffield auctioneer tops Yorkshire results tables with sales of more than £27m
Mark Jenkinson and Son, the Sheffield-based auctioneer, has topped the Yorkshire and Humber results tables for 2016 with sales of more than £27m.
The company achieved this feat in the same week its first auction of 2017 saw 100% of the 27 available lots sold.
Mark Jenkinson and Son recorded the best results in Yorkshire and the Humber for 2016, according to a report published by Essential Information (EI) Group, by beating off 20 other auctioneers in the region.
With sales of £27,882,250, the company generated in excess of £5m more than the auctioneer that ranked in second place.
The research by EI Group, which analyses UK-wide auction data, also found Mark Jenkinson and Son sold 91.2% of lots between January and December last year – compared with the average industry figure of 75.6% for the residential and commercial sectors.
Adrian Little, Head of the Auction Department at Mark Jenkinson and Son, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised as the top ranking individual auctioneer for sales in Yorkshire and the Humber for 2016.
“But to begin 2017 with our first auction where we sold every single lot is exceptional and a very, very positive start.
“It is a good barometer for our industry that people are buying in January as it shows they are looking ahead to Spring - when they will have developed the property and land to the point where they can sell it on again - and they are looking ahead with confidence to a healthy market in three months’ time.
“Both our EI ranking for 2016 and 100% successful sales in January mean we have kicked off the New Year on a high and are keeping up the momentum immediately. The day after our first auction we went live with details of our next by publishing our February catalogue.”
Mark Jenkinson and Son was established in 1877 and is the largest independent firm of Chartered Surveyors in South Yorkshire.
