West Yorkshire’s first ‘Lidl of the Future’ store opens in Leeds
Construction work on West Yorkshire’s first ‘Lidl of the Future’ store is now complete.
Caddick Construction, the Knottingley-based contractor, was appointed to deliver the brand new store in Gipton, Leeds, last year, beginning work on the 26,586 sq ft project in April 2016.
The project included the demolition of an existing Lidl store and construction of the new store including an internal fit out. Caddick Construction also completed external works, including the car park.
The new ‘Lidl of the Future’ features a fully glazed frontage, a flush external façade and exposed internal roof. The store has wider aisles, longer tills, new restroom and baby changing facilities.
The store also utilises the latest energy efficient technologies, reducing its environmental impact. The building reduces the CO2 emission rate by over 20% when compared with a building of the same type, size and use; that’s around 40 tons of CO2 a year.
Andrew Murray, managing director of Caddick Construction, commented: “We’re delighted to have delivered West Yorkshire’s first ‘Lidl of the Future’. It’s always a pleasure to work on a project that is genuinely innovative in its design and this store makes a welcome addition to our healthy retail portfolio.”
Graham Burr, head of property at Lidl UK, added: “We’re very proud to be opening the doors to West Yorkshire’s first ‘Lidl of the Future’.
“The new store offers an enhanced shopping experience for our customers, with the full range of products offered at the best possible price, as well as being better for the environment. It’s been a pleasure to work with Caddick Construction on this regionally significant project.”
Caddick Construction and Caddick Civil Engineering are the operational arms of Caddick Group PLC. The Group employs almost 500 people and its turnover is £90m.
