Plans in for latest stage of Manchester’s £850m Mayfield development
The Mayfield Development Partnership has submitted a planning application for temporary office and events space on the former Mayfield station site in central Manchester.
The partnership represents a joint venture between Manchester City Council, the Department for Transport’s London and Continental Railways arm (LCR), Transport for Greater Manchester and property regeneration firm U+I.
If approved, the project will create office and co-working space along with areas for events and exhibitions at the Baring Street end of the site.
The facilities would be in place for up to three years and ensure part of the former station grounds are in use while the wider, permanent plans for the Mayfield development move forward.
The partnership’s goal for Mayfield over the next 10 years is to deliver a £850m community comprising residential, leisure and commercial facilities.
The scheme has the potential to create 1,300 homes, 807,000 sq ft of office space, a 350-room hotel venue and a new city park.
It is estimated that the Mayfield development would create over 7,500 jobs.
Occupying a 24-acre site alongside Piccadilly Station, the site has lain derelict for more than a decade.
