Manchester United sign former Yahoo and Sony boss

Manchester United have announced the appointment of Phil Lynch as their new chief executive officer of media.

In his new role, Phil will oversee United’s digital media strategy and take responsibility for the management and operations of MUTV, including the platform’s newly launched app.

Phil previously served as tech giant Yahoo’s global head/vice-president of content and media partnerships in California, where he helped to secure over 3,500 content partnerships.

Before Yahoo, Phil worked as the senior vice president of digital networks and games for Sony Pictures Television, a position that saw him negotiate distribution deals and manage relationships with partners for Sony’s multi-platform video entertainment network Crackle.

Phil obtained a double bachelor’s degree in organisation behaviour management and sociology at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Richard Arnold, MUFC’s group managing director, commented: “Phil’s appointment is an important step in the evolution of our digital strategy.

“He has a wealth of experience at Yahoo and Sony Digital that will add real value and insight to our thinking.”
