Sir Howard Bernstein reopens 144-year-old Manchester property after £1m refurb
Manchester City Council chief exec Sir Howard Bernstein has officially reopened Carlton House in Albert Square following its seven-figure refurb.
Speaking before a 60-strong gathering at the five-storey property during the launch event, Sir Howard said the Grade II-listed building’s £1m transformation reflects the ongoing regeneration efforts in the city.
The audience was also addressed by the CEO of Carlton House Group Ltd (CHG), Elliot Feingold, who recalled the site’s long and varied history since its construction in 1873.
The majority of the scheme’s space is let on long-term leases, with tenants including State Bank of India, Nexus Solicitors and external façade company Taylor Maxwell.
Real estate advisory firms Colliers International and CBRE are now jointly marketing the last available 3,940 sq ft office suite.
Carlton House’s interiors comprise LG7-compliant LED lighting and comfort cooling, ultra high speed broadband connectivity and a marble and granite entrance hall with restored plaster features.
Sir Howard Bernstein will retire soon following 45 years with Manchester City Council.
Last summer, he called on Theresa May’s government reaffirm its commitment to the city and the wider North by continuing to show support for big projects across the region, including Transport for the North and HS2.
