Costa coming to Kirkby Town Centre

High street chain Costa Coffee has revealed plans for a new branch in Kirkby.

The store, Costa’s first in the Merseyside town, will occupy a 2,700 sq ft unit within St. Modwen’s multi-million pound redevelopment.

The branch will have indoor and outdoor seating areas, in addition to an express counter for customers to buy a coffee on the go.

Costa has submitted a planning application for the store to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

St. Modwen’s Town Centre manager, Mike Matthews, said: “We are confident that Costa will complement the diverse range of local retailers we have in the Town Centre, demonstrating our commitment to not only securing national brands but also looking after local businesses, which we know are of vital importance to the success of our Town Centre.

“With footfall figures continuing to increase week on week to around 127k to 130k per week, there is a clear indication that shoppers are liking the increased choice available.”

The deal with Costa is just one of a number of leases signed in the Town Centre since St. Modwen acquired the site in 2015.

The company bought the development from supermarket giant Tesco for £35.8m.
