Former social worker to create 10 jobs with Preston care hub

A former social worker who launched an online hub for social care services and professionals has revealed plans to create a raft of new jobs.

Matt Hughes, the mind behind Preston-based One Stop Social Ltd, said he wants to take on 10 new members of staff over the next three years.

The company was set up with support from Lancashire’s Business Growth Hub, Boost, and provides a place for those operating in the sector to promote frontline services, advertise vacancies and publicise resources, events and training opportunities.

Matt, who previously worked in social services for a local council, launched the One Stop Social website following a 10-month market research project and support from Boost’s Growth Support Programme.

He said: “In the next three years, I aim to create 10 jobs. My first employee joined in January and this will increase to meet demand for our services over time.

“The response to the business so far has been great. Our rebranded and redeveloped website will launch in March and will be more interactive for users.”

He added: “A lot has happened in a short space of time, but it’s both exciting and rewarding.”

After receiving support through Boost, Matt said One Stop Social went on to secure a £20k government-backed business loan.

Rona McFall of Winning Pitch, one of the companies that delivers the Growth Support Programme, commented: “It’s great to hear that Matt has taken on his first staff member just a few months after going live and that our help was the springboard for him to access finance.

“The business has been launched following a lot of in-depth research and we were pleased to be able to support Matt on the next steps to make sure there is a successful future ahead for One Stop Social Ltd.”
