Ninja Warrior star opens ninja-style gym in Liverpool

A semi-finalist from the hit ITV show Ninja Warrior UK has used a five-figure startup loan to launch a ninja-style gym in Liverpool.

Henry Cookey, who runs his own personal training business, opened HC:Fit Ninja Training near Sandhills train station in Kirkdale.

The facility’s core offer is its ‘ninja training zone’ – an area kitted out with obstacles and activities similar to those seen on Ninja Warrior UK and popular assault courses like Tough Mudder.

HC:Fit Ninja Training, which also houses a gymnasium and fitness studio, used a £22k loan from SME finance provider MSIF to purchase equipment and recruit employees.

Commenting on the launch, Henry said: “Ninja Warriors TV show has helped bring this type of training to people’s attention we’re already getting lots of interest on social media.

“One of the most common reasons for not staying on an exercise programme is boredom. With this type of training you get excellent results because it’s tough but it’s also entertaining so people are more likely to stick to it.”

He continued: “The ninja zone will contain physically challenging obstacles built to test participants and train them in various skills.

“The course and equipment will change from time to time to mix things up and keep it interesting. It’s a great way to get in shape and it’s also really good fun.”

Speaking further, Henry said he also wants to encourage more youngsters to get involved in fitness and exercising, with plans to run classes for kids from the age of six.

He added: “Other classes including a bootcamp which will be run from the studio and there’s also a gym where you can train alone or with a personal trainer.”

Discussing the funding, Henry said MSIF’s support played a “crucial” role in getting HC:Fit Ninja Training off the ground.

He explained: We applied for a bank loan initially but it was very expensive, MSIF was much more competitive on price. They also provide much more than money. They have been on hand throughout to help guide me through the investment process and also offer a fantastic post investment support service.“

Steve Hitchen, MSIF investment manager, commented: “The popularity of the TV show and the fact that Henry himself has taken part in it will be a great marketing opportunity for this business.

“It’s an exciting concept that will attract fitness fanatics, novices and children. The fitness industry is a growing market and I think HC:Fit will be a fantastic success.”
