Blackburn Rovers FC sign social media deal with long-standing club partner

Championship side Blackburn Rovers FC have signed a new social media sponsor.

Lancashire engineering and fabrication company WEC Group Ltd has agreed to become the main sponsor of the club’s social platforms for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.

WEC has a long-standing relationship with the Rovers, having sponsored the Darwen End stand at Ewood Park from 2008 to 2012.

Blackburn’s business development manager, Danny Davis, said: “It’s great to partner with a successful local company and specifically help them recruit locally, thus providing Blackburn and Darwen with skilled individuals and providing ambitious youngsters with a fantastic opportunity.

“Ultimately, it fits perfectly with our ethos of working closely with the local community and engaging with the fans of the future.”

The deal is an expansion of WEC’s status as the main club sponsor for local team AFC Darwen.

WEC Group commercial director and avid Blackburn Rovers supporter Wayne Wild commented: “We are always keen to strike partnerships with local clubs, in particular Blackburn Rovers, as the national exposure available boosts brand awareness on a huge scale, and helps us to gain local exposure to attract skilled individuals and apprentices to our rapidly expanding company.

“The company is proud to be associated with Blackburn Rovers, and as a lifelong supporter I am hoping the results of our partnership will match more success on the pitch!”

He continued: “The club’s target audience for social media is exactly the kind of people we are trying to reach out to as a way of promoting our fantastic apprenticeship schemes, as they provide local people with a practical alternative to going to college or university as well as equipping them with the high-quality skills they need to carve out a successful career in engineering.”

WEC Group, which became an 800-employee business in 2016 after acquiring Coventry-based metal fabricator HTA Group, is currently undergoing a UK-wide recruitment drive with more than 40 positions available, including multiple office- and field-based sales roles for its WEC Laser and WEC Waterjet brands.

There are also engineering, machining and maintenance role available across its sites in Lancashire.

Earlier this month, WEC Group announced the launch of a new office in Scotland.
