The new stage will measure 212 ft by 140 ft and reach a height of 40ft

The Space Project’s new 30,000 sq ft main stage takes shape

Work is progressing on the new main stage at The Space Project in Manchester, with TV production crews offered a first glimpse of the development’s huge steel frame.

The new 30,000 sq ft sixth stage will measure 212 ft by 140 ft and reach a height of 40ft.

Bosses of the media facility said the development, forming part of a £14m expansion, is on schedule and set to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Space Project CEO Adrian Bleasdale said that since its launch in 2014, the production centre has secured repeat business from “every UK major broadcaster”.

He continued: “But as dramas grow in their ambition and scale, we wanted to deliver an affordable large-scale stage that will accommodate producers creative ambition with the realism of good budget management.

“We think the new stage six will deliver just that – scale, at an affordable price and the back up of a superb on site team dedicated to a great client experience.”

Popular TV programmes filmed on The Space Project’s five existing stages include BBC drama The A Word, reality show Dragons’ Den and ITV drama Cold Feet.

The expansion works will double the size of the complex, creating a 275 new jobs and providing a boost of almost £10m for the local economy.

Across the 17-acre site, over 90,000 sq ft of new buildings will be built for production and related support activities.
