Liverpool FC gather views on their £50m 'state-of-the-art ' Academy redevelopment

A public consultation over Liverpool FC’s plan to redevelop its Academy in Kirkby has now closed.

The £50m scheme, being developed in partnership with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, would consolidate the training operations and facilities of the club’s youth and first teams into one site.

The proposals also outlined a series of improvements to the community playing fields at nearby Simonswood Lane.

Over 2,000 residents and businesses were invited to the public consultation, which was held in Kirkby this month, to meet representatives of LFC and the council.

Liverpool said feedback on the proposals has now been collected online, through the post and via feedback forms available at the consultation event.

Andy Hughes, the club’s chief operating officer, said previously: “Our proposed plans to bring the first team and young players together in one location is a really exciting proposition.

“The scheme includes state-of-the-art facilities which will be used to support the development of our players and provides all-weather training options.”

Elsewhere, the club said the pre-planning consultation period for its proposed redevelopment of the Melwood training ground has likewise closed. The Reds issued a newsletter inviting feedback on the proposals to almost 3,000 residents.

Feedback on both consultations will be reviewed and summarised in a Statement of Community Engagement for each project, with the documents forming part of any future planning applications to be brought forward by Liverpool FC later this year.
