Lightbox will create 238 new apartments across 19 storeys

Construction to begin on £35m ‘Lightbox’ scheme at MediaCityUK

Work is about to get underway on a multi-million pound residential scheme at MediaCityUK.

Lightbox, a £35m development, will create 238 new apartments across 19 storeys on the media and tech hub’s waterfront, offering residents views over Salford Quays and the Manchester skyline.

With designs by architecture and building consultancy AHR, homes at Lightbox will comprise a mix of studios and one-, two- and three-bed apartments for private sale.

MediaCityUK has selected building firm Bouygues UK to deliver the scheme.

Stephen Wild, the managing director of MediaCityUK, commented: “We are very proud of what we have achieved here at MediaCityUK so far, and Lightbox will bring a new residential community to what is already a thriving and vibrant destination.

“Located in the heart of MediaCityUK, with panoramic waterfront views, easy access to all retail and restaurants, and more still to come, this is an incredibly exciting place to live.”

He added: “Keen interest in Lightbox has reflected this since we took it to market in 2016 and we look forward to working with Bouygues UK to deliver this project.”

Bouygues UK’s chief operating officer, Craig Tatton, said: “Securing this scheme in the North West is a fantastic achievement and Lightbox is an exciting project.

“Greater Manchester is a core focus for us as we look to apply the technical expertise we have as part of the wider Bouygues group to major projects where we can add value.”

He continued: “As well as providing high-quality new homes and regenerating land, we are committed to delivering the maximum benefit to the community by engaging with local suppliers, residents and community groups.”

According to MediaCityUK, Lightbox’s apartments will feature “high-specification, contemporary-styled” kitchens, bathrooms, appliances and flooring, with the building also featuring a full concierge service, parking spaces to rent and bicycle storage.

Construction will commence at the end of April for completion in Q1 2019.
