Sheffield tech startup Tutora secures £700k in crowdfunding
Tutora, the Sheffield-based tuition marketplace startup, has now raised £700k from over 500 investors via crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.
The business completed its second crowdfunding round in March, following on from its first round less than 12 months before.
Last April, Tutora raised £150k in just four days via Crowdcube, allowing the business to begin creating new jobs and expand. Over the past year the company has achieved 700% monthly revenue growth and is now the third largest tuition company in the UK.
Tutora connects families across the UK with private tutors for their children. Tutors are available to teach any subject, including languages and instruments, to any age group.
Primarily tutors are booked by parents to provide after-school, at-home tuition for their children, though the startup has seen volumes of growth in the adult learning sector too.
The business personally vets every tutor before they join the site, whilst its ‘best match’ algorithm can find the choicest tutors, pulling them to the top of the search results and removing those whom other students, and the data, show not to be offering a truly great service.
Currently the platform lists over 7000 tutors, serving thousands of lessons per week to students.
Scott Woodley, CEO and Co-Founder of Tutora, said: “We’re delighted to be raising the flag for Sheffield businesses. There is a wealth of flourishing companies here in the city and we’re proud to be one of many who are raising the profile of the blossoming tech scene.
“The investment we’ve received will allow us continue growing the team locally here in Sheffield, creating new jobs, providing opportunities to retain high-caliber graduates and attracting even more outside talent into our city.”
Tutora now aims to become the largest tuition company in the UK within the next twelve months.
