Potential Unearthed Go Outdoors

Chorley-based leadership and management training provider, Potential Unearthed, is set to add another string to its bow with the offering of a new outward bound training experience at Ormside Mill.

Potential Unearthed (PU) design and deliver individually tailored management and personal development training programmes. In eight years of operation PU’s client roster has grown significantly and includes Crown Paints, Carillion Amey and the NHS.

The new outward bound experience was developed as a number of a clients were looking for an out of classroom experience. The experience was well received so directors Mike and Sarah decided to include the new initiative on a permanent basis.

Ormside Mill, situated in the heart of Cumbria, is a registered charity and has had 8000 people through its doors since opening in 1999. The centre traditionally works with youth clubs and schools, providing an opportunity for hard to reach young people to engage with outdoor activities. A partnership with PU attracting a corporate audience will draw in a wider audience in order to support the charity.

Having known Phil Longbottom, manager at the Ormside Mill, for many years the husband and wife team approached him about collaborating.

Phil said: “When Potential Unearthed approached me, it seems like a perfect opportunity. I’d been looking for a way to raise The Mill’s profile and interact with businesses to raise funds to support the charity. I know Mike has an excellent reputation and it seemed a good match for our high quality outdoor experience.”

The outdoor element of this offering will be provided by Phil and his team, with Mike on hand to follow up with an indoor session to consolidate the learning.

Mike explains: “Adding this to our offering was the next logical step for our growth. There’s a high demand for this kind of experience and it’ll be great to allow our clients an opportunity to get out of the office and interact with each other elsewhere. We see this working really well with remote sales team and the like who need to have great teamwork skills without necessarily being in one place.

“This new addition to our offering will help improve skills including decision making, team building and problem solving and will include activities such as orienteering, kayaking and mountain biking. We think Ormside Mill is the perfect partner and it allows us the opportunity to give back to the community.”
