Tesco doughnut supplier Simply Doughnuts set for £75k sales growth

A Lancashire-based doughnut manufacturer has created new employment opportunities and looks set to increase sales.

Blackburn firm Simply Doughnuts Ltd, which supplies Tesco, Iceland and a number of other outlets, took on two new members of staff after receiving a grant and business support from the Lancashire Manufacturing Growth Fund.

Now, the company has forecast a sales increase of £75k.

Owned by Shiraz Master, Simply Doughnuts manufactures long shelf life doughnuts that it says remain fresh for up to 20 days, enabling supermarkets to cut wastage and reduce the costs of transport, stock control and shelf stocking by ordering less frequently in larger numbers.

Shiraz said: “The support helped to improve the overall performance and profitability of the business and as a result we have created two new jobs and forecast a £75k increase of sales.

“We were able to identify where we had bottlenecks and seek solutions to improve this. We were also able to identify what we needed to do to maximise customer value while minimising waste.”

He continued: “Additionally, we developed a marketing strategy covering areas including target markets and products as well as looking for opportunities for growth, focusing on short term and long term customers and how to effectively market our products to secure long term contracts.

“The support provided gave me the opportunity to seek expert advice in order to identify and overcome barriers within my business and to continue to thrive and grow.”

The Lancashire Manufacturing Growth Fund, part of Lancashire’s Business Growth Hub Boost, works to help the county’s manufacturing businesses improve processes, increase capacity, innovate and gain access new markets.

Boost is led by the Lancashire LEP and Lancashire County Council with the support of funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
