Bolton Wanderers slapped with winding-up petition over unpaid £5m loan
Bolton Wanderers have reportedly been issued a winding-up petition over an unpaid seven-figure loan.
According to BBC Radio Manchester, finance firm BluMarble lent Dean Holdsworth’s Sports Shield business £5m to complete a takeover with club chairman Ken Anderson’s Inner Circle Investments.
Mr Anderson, however, became the majority owner of BWFC when he acquired former Bolton striker Holdsworth’s shares in March.
The BBC has further reported that Bolton, while aware of the legal action, would not comment as it is a matter for Sports Shield.
A High Court date over the winding-up petition is set for May 22.
The League One side fell into financial difficulty early last year, with chairman Ken Anderson since promising the club will learn from “mistakes of the past”.
